Seven miles north of Ennis lies the small Montana community of McAllister. Named for the rancher who founded it, McAllister continues to be a ranching community. It also offers access to the Bear Trap Canyon Wilderness. Part of the larger Lee Metcalf Wilderness Area, the Bear Trap Canyon Wilderness was the first wilderness area managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The roadless canyon offers nearly ten miles of Class IV-V whitewater and prime fishing, if you feel adventurous enough to get to it.
